Katys Musical Culture Adventure
My name is Katy Garner. I grew up in Greenville South Carolina. I grew up singing in many different choirs, like Chicora Voices which is a Children's Choir in Greenville. I also sang in my church's choir and my four years in high school chorus. Recently my family moved to Spartanburg so my mom can be closer to where she works. I have had so many exciting opportunities that singing provided. For example. I have been lucky enough to perform Carmina Burana and I sang Mahler's 3rd symphony (it has only been performed a few times in the United States). I performed with the San Francisco Gay Mens Choir on World Aids Day. Their choir is amazing. I also got to perform with the Furman Opera Company in Hansel and Gretel ( what Converse is doing) I have never been in an opera before so it was a really cool experience to be one of the children! ( the pictures I put in here are my two cats named Esmo and Mojo, me and my family's new house)
The Music I have recently enjoyed listening to is Ariana Grande, 80s and 90s music and I like a lot of these songs . They make me want to dance. All of the songs are fun to listen to. I enjoy listening to them they make me feel happy. One Ariana Grande song that I recently listened to is "Positions" and I really like the beat to the song. It is upbeat and fun to dance to.
I also enjoy listening to musicals like Tik Tik Boom. One song from "Tik Tik Boom" I really enjoyed listening to is called "30/90" it is also upbeat and enjoyable to listen to
I always seem to have an 80s playlist going all the time but one song I really enjoy listening to is called It's Tricky by Run DMC It gets stuck in my head but I still like singing it with my mom
One song that is very meaningful to me and brings back memories of being in my churches youth group is "Prince of Peace." We sing this song a lot at youth church camps and it is just a beautiful song. I miss being in my youth group so much because I made so many memories and friends. I miss going on youth trips and doing activities with my youth Family
A song that does not connect with me is "Problem" by Ariana Grande. It just is sometimes overplayed and gets to really annoying when you hear it over and over again. I love Ariana Grande, but that song is not my favorite. It is okay to listen to the song once but not a million times. I would rather listen to it one time and when the song is over go to the next song. I totally understand that other people really like the song but I just don't enjoy the song like I used to.
First things first- your cats? Adorable. I haven't gotten to watch Tick Tick Boom yet but I really want to, and the song you linked is one of the reasons why. I really enjoy the music, it's such an upbeat song despite what he's actually singing about! I've never listened to "Problem" before but now that I have, I can see how it would quickly grow old if you had to listen to it a bunch.
ReplyDeleteI've never really gotten into Ariana Grande... I know lots of people like her, I just haven't done much investigating. I think you just put me on though with "Positions." I've heard a part of it from TikTok before, but I've never heard the whole thing. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteHi Katy! I really like your musical taste and absolutely loved Tick Tick Boom. My favorite song from it is "therapy" but this one absolutely slaps too. I find it funny that you had both an Ariana Grande song in something that you love but also something you hate. For me I absolutely adore Doja Cat and have yet to find a song by her that I do not particularly like. It looks like your taste has tons of variety and I am here for it!
